Bruno Walpoth. Ricordi d'infanzia. Wood. cm. 76 x 41 x 28. 2012
Bruno Walpoth is an artist of drawing, sculpting, and impressions. He uses small tools to carve wood into human figures that are extremely detailed and life-like. He has been sculpting since the early 1970's and has truly made a name for himself through his talents.
Looking through many of Bruno's works i noticed they all had the same blank face expression. But when I read the name of each sculpture the expressions and mood came alive through the sculpture. Some of his other works titles are "longing" and "don't ask me why". It is then easy to connect to the emotion of the sculpture. Bruno states that, "When I make my sculptures, I am not telling any stories... I am just trying to capture the moment. That moment—in which the model has vanished in his own thoughts and acts ‘absent’"
This piece of art, Ricordi d'infanzia, is Italian for "childhood memories." You can tell the girl is a young adult and is somewhat reminiscing on her childhood. The way she grabs her braid suggests that it reminds her of when she was younger. This sculpture connects to the theme because it is a time period when one is growing up and that causes you to look back and wish you were young again.
